About Lily's Dress-Up Adventure
Lily's Dress-Up Adventure is a small, independent game made by Shai Weinstein and his daughters. It started as a present for one kid who wanted a dress-up friend and a beach, and grew one room at a time.
Why it exists
Most dress-up games for children are wrapped in things a parent doesn't want: sign-ups, chat, pop-up ads inside the game, and outfits locked behind payments. This one is meant to be the opposite — a calm, free place where a child can dress up, cook, read, build and splash around, and where a parent can hand over the tablet without reading the small print.
How it's made
- Original art. Lily, her friends, every outfit and the beach were drawn and modelled for this game: the 2D wardrobe art with a small SVG pipeline, and the 3D beach characters in Blender.
- Open-source engines. The 3D beach runs on three.js and parts of the 2D game on Phaser. Their licences and those of every other component are on the credits page.
- Books with permission to share. The library uses openly licensed StoryWeaver books and public-domain Beatrix Potter tales, credited book by book. The read-aloud narration is a computer-generated voice.
- Tested by the people it's for. Features change when kids get stuck or parents ask — for example, the printable paper dolls were made bigger so small hands could cut them out.
- No backend. The whole site is static files. There is no server program collecting anything, which is how the privacy promise can be kept.
What it will never do
- Ask a child for any personal information.
- Put ads, chat or links to other sites inside the game.
- Sell outfits, lives, energy or anything else.
- Use tricks to keep children playing longer than they want to.
What's next
New outfits, books and places are added over time; the What's new page lists every update with its date. Ideas from children are very welcome — many of the best ones came from them.
